Brightening up Roads with Havells LED Street Lights

What would our cities look like if there were no street lights? Would you feel safe walking down a dark, desolate road at night? Street lights are crucial to ensuring safety – among pedestrians and vehicles alike, and over the decades, they’ve undergone some major transformations in terms of design, technology, costs and energy consumption. However, one of the key challenges in this regard is bridging the omnipresent demand-supply gap and creating energy-efficient services. Which is why smart street lighting in the form of LED lights presents a viable solution.

We, at Havells, have been an integral part of the LED street light movement in the country, as we are committed to making a difference to society with our offerings. Given our in-depth understanding of the market and our expertise in delivering quality products that have the potential to change mindsets and perceptions, we believe in doing our bit towards creating a greener future. Our LED street light options offer high environment endurance and shock resistance, apart from being sustainable with reduced carbon footprint.

The Pearl range of LED lights are ideal for B2 category of roads; they come with PDC aluminium housing, high power LEDs and lens-embedded PC cover to ensure asymmetric batwing light distribution. Offering a high efficacy of over 110 lm/W, these lights provide excellent illumination. They operate at a wide temperature range of minus 30 degrees Celsius to 45 degrees Celsius, and a voltage range of 140 to 270V. Pearl Plus has all these features and in addition, it has separately accessible LED drivers (for ease of access and maintenance) with three options – Standard, Potted Dimmable and Potted Non Dimmable, equipped with a 10KV surge protection device in all three variants.

Apart from our drive to cut down power consumption and soaring electricity bills, we also bring in our distinctive technological edge with the help of a centrally controlled monitoring system (CCMS) that regulates and tracks energy consumption and schedules operation of street lights through a wireless, remote-control-based system.

As per Infoholic Research, the smart street lighting market in India is estimated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 42% in the period between 2016 and 2022. In fact, the Government has set up Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) that works closely with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to evolve feasible strategies for implementation of energy efficiency. EESL advocates the use of LED technology in street lights to cut down costs and energy consumption; a BEE-led project across 269 municipalities and local bodies spanning 15 states has concluded that if all 33.65 street lights in the area were replaced by LED lights, the savings in terms of recurring costs would be to the tune of ₹345 crores annually. And that’s a huge saving.

Despite the undeniable benefits of LED lights, several cities and municipalities continue to deploy conventional sodium lamps or CFLs that do not serve the intended purpose. As the focus on developing smart cities gains momentum, government bodies are also working towards creating smart street lighting solutions. We are proud to have acquired an order with the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj wing in Tamil Nadu for installation of 86,000 pieces (Phase 1) of Havells street lights.

Smart street lighting is not only beneficial cost-wise, but it’s also a step towards securing a better, brighter and greener future. So it is important to invest in power-saving LED street lights to conserve energy and brighten up our public spaces, making them safer.
